The Joint Opposition says a Parliament Select Committee should be appointed over corruption and fraud.
Speaking at a media briefing United People’s Freedom Alliance Parliamentarian Bandula Gunewardene said the attention of the Speaker of House Karu Jayasuriya will be drawn to the matter.
MP Gunewardene claimed when the economic mechanism of a country does not function for an entire year the economy will not grow, job opportunities will not be generated and the country cannot be developed.
He said within a year after the war was won the country experienced a downfall and the country is still experiencing its results adding the rupee is also depreciating.
The MP added party leaders must immediately after the nomination process, appoint a committee either led by an Opposition MP or by the Public Accounts Committee to reveal why the economy crumbled and reveal matters related to corruption and crime.
