A spokesperson of the party said, the UNP will continue to govern the country adding the country will be taken forward based on the 2015 mandate.
United People’s Freedom Alliance meanwhile is attempting appoint Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva as the Prime Minister.
However the UNP spokesperson stressed the party retains the majority in parliament.
Refuting reports of possible crossovers, the UNP spokesperson said an independent UNP government will be formed in the future.
